Aevornix Studio

A lightweight desktop video editor.

Overview

What Aevornix Studio is

Aevornix Studio is a lightweight desktop video editor. A project holds its media, sequences, history, versions, rights records and exports, and is written as the work is made, so there is no save action and no unsaved state. Picture and sound share one frame accurate timeline, and every effect, key, mask and grade is the same operation in the viewer as in the renderer, so what is on screen is what is delivered.

Where it fits

One production path.

Aevornix Studio is one system in a pipeline. Each stage takes a defined input and hands a defined output to the next.

Four systems in one production path: Control, Orchestrates the project, the workflows and the agents. AevCode, Plans changes, validates them, and rolls them back cleanly when they fail. Design, Produces the images, textures, materials, meshes and animation a change needs. Core, Renders, simulates, edits and runs the project.

  1. Developer Preview

Orchestrates the project, the workflows and the agents.

    In
Your intent, and the current project state
    Out
A planned unit of work handed to the pipeline

Control decides what needs to happen and calls AevCode to work out how.

  2. Developer Preview

Plans changes, validates them, and rolls them back cleanly when they fail.

    In
A unit of work plus the project it applies to
    Out
    A reviewed, reversible change set

Validated changes are applied to the project Core builds and runs.

  3. Developer Preview

Produces the images, textures, materials, meshes and animation a change needs.

    In
An asset requirement from the planned work
    Out
    Project-ready assets in engine formats

Assets land in the project alongside the change that asked for them.

  4. Developer Preview

Renders, simulates, edits and runs the project.

    In
The project with its applied changes and assets
    Out
A running scene, a test result, or an exported build

What it does

Media library
Import with poster frames and waveforms, search, smart bins and favourites. A moved file is found again by its fingerprint.
Timeline
Magnetic Mode keeps a track contiguous; Track Mode keeps gaps. Move, trim, blade, roll, slip, slide and ripple, with cross dissolves built from the source either side of the cut.
Three point editing
Mark In and Out in the source viewer, then insert or overwrite at the playhead. Picture and sound arrive linked as one step.
Visual effects
A green or blue key with spill suppression, rectangle, ellipse and freehand masks with feather, and an ordered effect stack on each clip.
Colour and titles
Exposure, contrast, gamma and saturation on any clip, and titles placed from starting points and edited afterwards.
Delivery
Master, web, vertical, square and audio presets, checked before the render starts, with progress, a stop control and an export history.

One history

Undo covers the timeline and the library alike, is described in words, and is saved with the project, so it is still there after reopening. Named versions sit outside that history: restoring one captures the state it replaced first, so returning to a version can itself be reversed.

Later stages

  • Nesting, compound clips and time remapping
  • Scopes and a node based grade
  • Curved mask edges, tracking, blend modes and the node compositor
  • A code signed installer
